No golf today!!

Friday Morning, December 6, 2013
Ramblings of an Old Fart:
Did I ever tell you guys my freezing point?  It's 70, not 32 degrees.  I'm miserable, my child bride is ecstatic!  My golf game is seriously depressed!  I'm positive video tape was invented so you could avoid things like this and simply watch it on TV in the comfort of one's home.  To add insult to irony I received a new golf GPS yesterday.  Won't be taking that out of the box anytime soon!   : (

Dear Tweedles

Folks, Tweedles is not doing well.  Please send your thoughts and prayers to her Moms and the good doctors who are doing everything they can for her.  All of our Little Ones are special but Tweedles and her Moms are always focused on everyone else on Bloggerville and now is the time for us to return that love.

Fight hard dear, sweet Tweedles!

My life is in suspension!

My life is like this suspension bridge, drifting on the breeze over a giant chasm!  My beloved St. Louis Cardinals are down to the hated Red Sox, all because my GrandPug Daisy is not allowed to come over and watch the games with me!  Just because Christy and Tim are Cubs fans should not make my GrandPug Daisy a Cubs fan.  I know Daisy wants to be a CARDINALS fan, just like her Gampy.  Woe is me, deprived of my little Cardinal Pug Daisy!

Monday, October 14, 2013

Daisy and I are getting ready to watch the St Louis Cardinals beat the L.A. Dodgers in Game 3!
Daisy says "GO CARDINALS!"  What a smart Grandpug I have!  : )

P.S.  I'm not sure but I think Christy and Tim have converted Donald over to the Dark Side.  I think I saw him wearing a Cubs shirt a little while back!  : (

Blessed in so many ways

Payne Stewart Statue at Pinehurst #2
My child bride not only gives my life meaning, takes care of me, tolerates my senility, but she also lets me golf.  To some that may not mean much, but to me it's life sustaining.  Golf is my true passion in life not tied to God and family.

Last week I was able to complete a "bucket list" trip to Pinehurst Golf Resort and along the way got to play East Lake in Atlanta, Ga., the course where Bobby Jones grew up and learned golf.  From that heady 18 we traveled to North Carolina to spend four days playing the site of next year's Men and Women's United States Opens (they will be played in consecutive weeks on Pinehurst #2).

We also played Pine Needles, site of the Woman's US Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007.  Tobacco Road and the Country Club of North Carolina also were savaged by our foursome, causing greenskeepers to earn their pay repairing the grounds from our gouges and slashes that we like to think are golf swings!

We returned home via Nashville Tennessee where we stopped overnight so we could play Vanderbilt's Legends Country Club, specifically the North Course.  This has been the site of numerous Ladies and Men's pro tournaments and the North Course has the finest greens I have ever played on, a sentiment shared by our entire foursome.

So you see, I'm indeed blessed to have the support of my child bride, my beautiful, pug-loving daughter, all the while enjoying the greatest game ever played by man.  God is good!

Donald's Birthday

Yesterday was my GrandPug Donald's birthday and I was fortunate enough to be invited to his birthday party.  You can see all the details on Christy's blog Pug-a-Boo!  Happy, happy birthday Donald!

Love Gampy!

P.S.  The picture is from one of Donald and Daisy's great recent adventures!  I stole it from Christy!  Shhhhhhhhhh!

The Price of Life

I'm at an age now where Obituaries are part of the must read sections of the paper, along with Sports, the Front Page, and Local News.  Sometimes it seems like the ages of those who passed are speeding towards me like a Japanese high-speed train.  The only "hero" I had growing up still alive is Arnold Palmer and he's in his 80's.  Both my parents passed away years ago, my close friends' parents are passing, even my best friend's wife recently died of Cancer.  We are caring for my child bride's mother, but she is clearly in failing health and now in a nursing home/rehab center longing for an end to it all.  So I'm realizing that death will be the final milestone to my life and it can't be avoided.  : )

Of course most people know that before they hit 30, but then I've always been a slow learner!

Religions handle this ultimate scenario with peace and dignity and as a Christian I'm not dreading my passing but I'm certainly not rushing to meet my Maker either.  Still, the plain truth is that time points to it coming sooner rather than later (I'm 64, not 14).  Such thoughts lead to the fact that Death is truly the price you pay for being alive.  Given its the "ultimate" price, shouldn't you lead the "ultimate" life?  I think just about everyone would say yes to that, but then they would say it's all so complicated.  I wouldn't disagree with that, there are families to raise, social interactions, demands of work, you name it.  Lots of reasons to hop into that rut called getting to the next day, meeting all the obligations and demands of living your life.  So let me leave you with this thought, don't run from those obligations but  each day do one thing that makes you or someone you love happy.  Do that and when that final milestone in life occurs, you'll have every reason to have that smile on your face.

And if you really want to be happy about it all and truly enrich your life, rescue at least one dog (a Pug if you're really smart!) before you go.

God Bless you all.

LIfe is Good

2013 Already??

Wow, another new year for all of us!  No Mayan catastrophe, not even a fall off the fiscal cliff!  I guess we've got a lot to smile about!!  As Puglet is suggesting over on his site, we should all give one another hugs and snuggles so all those we love know we care and appreciate each other!

Love to all,
